A group of us headed to La Plagne for a bit of skiiing and flew into Geneve airport. We’d booked everything ourselves so we had to get from the airport to the ski resort and thought a hire car would be the best bet.
Holiday Autos worked out the cheapest at £249 for a week for a Mondeo estate. Car was brand new and was very spacious, altough we had to pay an extra 50 Swiss francs (£25) for a ski rack.
The drive from Geneva Airport took just over 2 hours and it was fine, although the mountain roads up to La Plagne 1800 were a bit steep and windy. Car was fine though and the roads are well maintained - it’s not like Britain were it grinds to a halt after a bit of snow!
As were skiing, we didn’t really use the car for the whole week. It was worth having though to get us from the airport, as public transport isn’t really viable.
Would definately book with Holiday Autos again, although I’d maybe go for the Astra which was just £180 for the week and would’ve probably done the 4 of us.
Went to Moraira last year and decided the next time we came we should hire a car from Alicante. Just got back from our hols and we had a villa in Moraira.
Hireing a car was the best way to get to and from the airport at Alicante and was very reasonable at £93 for a weeks, especially compared to a return taxi.
Our car was a Opel Corsa - Opel’s are the European Vauxhall’s - and it was ideal for the 3 of us. We didn’t go too far with the car, but it was ideal to pop to the supermarket and around town.
If you’re staying at your own villa or making your own way from Alicante, a hire car is definately worth considering.
Holiday Autos were very good too and overall we were very pleased with everything…. can’t wait to go back!

Booked a trip to Dublin and booked a car rental to be picked up at Dublin Airport through Hertz.
Just me, the wife and our little un, so only wanted something about the size of a Ford Focus. Luckily, the Ford Focus worked out as one of the cheapest online on the Hertz website and at £114 for the week thought it was a good deal and booked it.
I’m not sure whether car hire in Ireland is popular, as the staff at the airports were very quiet. We were given the keys and I was happy to see the Ford Focus and it was plenty big enough for us.
The only downside is that I’m used to an automatic and this was manual. After a few crunchy gear changes, I got the hang of it and it was a breeze after that.
Our visit to Dublin was fantastic and if you want to explore more of Ireland, renting a car is the best idea.
I asked at the desk whether it was cheaper to book car hire at the airport directly and they said booking you car hire online was always cheapest and you had the pick of cars.
Worth remembering for future and you can book online at www.hertz.co.uk

Thrifty Car Rental Florida
We needed a big enough car to rent for a family of 5 and their baggage, for our recent holiday to Disneyland Florida.
Car hire in Florida is essential and we chose something that was comfy and slightly bigger than we needed.
The Dodge Durango from Thrifty Car Hire had 7 seats and was very roomy inside. The boot space (trunk) wasn’t that big and could only really fit 2/3 suitcases. Fortunately, the back seats could fold down and this gave us plenty of room.
The extra space for the suitcases is obviously only needed for the trip from the airport to the villa or your hotel. Once we dropped the luggage off, we had plenty of room to spread out.
Driving in the USA is pretty easy and I’d recommend getting a car to explore further afield. Petrol was $3.50 per gallon and the Dodge Durango did around 25-30 MPG, which was pretty good considering it’s size.
There’s plenty of places for cheap car hire in Florida, but we booked with Thrifty beforehand and still got a good deal. Booking your car hire beforehand online means you can choose the car size, although not the make and model.
Hope this review helps.

I’d booked my car hire for Malaga with Avis and chose the Medium: Intermediate range, as I was happy with a VW Golf/Audi A3 size car and the features they had.
I arrived at Malaga airport and went to the Avis desk and was told I had been upgraded - yippee! Sadly, I’d been upgraded to a people carrier - a Vauxhall Zafira.
As there were only the two of us it was quite big for our needs and with a visit planned for Gibraltar, I was wondering how to get this thing through the narrow streets of Gibraltar.
Unfortunately, there were only very smaller and much more basic cars available from Avis and has I’d prepaid there would be no refund available.
The Vauxhall Zafira was ok to be honest and was pretty good on petrol. It was nice to have plenty of room for the shopping and suitcases etc. It would’ve have been ideal for a family of 4 say, with all their ‘extras’.
I paid £150 for 7 days with Avis, so just over £20 per day wasn’t bad at all and enabled us to get to see more of Nerja and indeed Spain and Gibraltar.
I’d rent again with Avis, but next time try and get them to guarentee their cars or maybe I was too picky?
