Thrifty Car Rental Florida
We needed a big enough car to rent for a family of 5 and their baggage, for our recent holiday to Disneyland Florida.
Car hire in Florida is essential and we chose something that was comfy and slightly bigger than we needed.
The Dodge Durango from Thrifty Car Hire had 7 seats and was very roomy inside. The boot space (trunk) wasn’t that big and could only really fit 2/3 suitcases. Fortunately, the back seats could fold down and this gave us plenty of room.
The extra space for the suitcases is obviously only needed for the trip from the airport to the villa or your hotel. Once we dropped the luggage off, we had plenty of room to spread out.
Driving in the USA is pretty easy and I’d recommend getting a car to explore further afield. Petrol was $3.50 per gallon and the Dodge Durango did around 25-30 MPG, which was pretty good considering it’s size.
There’s plenty of places for cheap car hire in Florida, but we booked with Thrifty beforehand and still got a good deal. Booking your car hire beforehand online means you can choose the car size, although not the make and model.
Hope this review helps.

I’d booked my car hire for Malaga with Avis and chose the Medium: Intermediate range, as I was happy with a VW Golf/Audi A3 size car and the features they had.
I arrived at Malaga airport and went to the Avis desk and was told I had been upgraded - yippee! Sadly, I’d been upgraded to a people carrier - a Vauxhall Zafira.
As there were only the two of us it was quite big for our needs and with a visit planned for Gibraltar, I was wondering how to get this thing through the narrow streets of Gibraltar.
Unfortunately, there were only very smaller and much more basic cars available from Avis and has I’d prepaid there would be no refund available.
The Vauxhall Zafira was ok to be honest and was pretty good on petrol. It was nice to have plenty of room for the shopping and suitcases etc. It would’ve have been ideal for a family of 4 say, with all their ‘extras’.
I paid £150 for 7 days with Avis, so just over £20 per day wasn’t bad at all and enabled us to get to see more of Nerja and indeed Spain and Gibraltar.
I’d rent again with Avis, but next time try and get them to guarentee their cars or maybe I was too picky?
